Camping in Georgia
With beautiful and diverse nature, Georgia is a great choice for those who love camping. Here you can set up a tent or park your camper car or a motorhome pretty much anywhere you desire, or better to say anywhere you can reach…
Options are numerous – At the seaside, high up in the mountains, by the lake, in the desert, in the forest, or even on the street. There are no legal restrictions for camping. Anyone can feel free to set up a tent anywhere they find interesting or comfortable and there are many spots all over the country where camping is comfortable.
Apart from beautiful scenery, there are several managed campsites, which for the small price, offer infrastructure, activities, food and company.
And also, apart from managed campsites, in general country’s rural areas are full of affordable guesthouses which will eagerly let you set up a tent in or nearby their private property for a symbolic price and it will include use of their indoor toilet and shower facilities (don’t forget to feel free to negotiate), usually one can even have a tasty authentic homemade breakfast for a small extra.
Below we have listed some areas which are the most attractive for camping lovers, divided in two parts:

– Best wild camping locations.
Managed Campsites
Since the whole country is a campsite, there are not too many private ones. Below we have picked the best ones we know. Most of them are accessible by a car or a motorhome.
Imereti Region
Sveri Adventure Camp – Recommended!
Sveri Adventure Camp sits in the historic village of Sveri in the Imereti region, about 11 km from Chiatura, 1.5 hours from Kutaisi, and roughly two hours from Tbilisi. Hidden in a dramatic rock valley, the camp is easy to spot from the main road just before the valley ends. It offers simple but well-equipped facilities, including wooden cottages, a tent area, shared dining and kitchen spaces, showers, and gear rental. Close by are a climbing area and a rock-cut church, while the surrounding area is ideal for outdoor activities such as rock climbing, hiking, cycling, caving, rafting, cultural tours, and Via Ferrata adventures which are organized by the campsite owners. Kazbegi Region & Stepantsminda
– Zeta camp, Village Juta
Zeta Camping is located near the village of Juta, high in the Kazbegi region, surrounded by alpine meadows and dramatic Caucasus peaks. Sitting at around 2,200 meters above sea level, it is one of the highest campsites in Georgia and a popular stop for hikers heading toward Chaukhi Pass and the Chaukhi Massif. The campsite offers a mix of tents and simple cabins, along with a café serving hot meals and drinks, making it a comfortable base despite the remote setting. From here, visitors can enjoy day hikes, mountain views, and quiet evenings under the stars. Zeta Camping is typically accessible from late spring to early autumn, depending on weather conditions.
You can get there by taking a taxi to Juta from Stepantsminda, then walking approximately 900 meters to the campsite. Usually open from June till October

Private campsite with, nice owners and stuff, a campfire where you can just sit and chill and watch the mountains, shower, hot water, low prices, they offer tents to hire, cafe-bar and rooms where guests can spend a pleasant vacation.

Aragvi Adventure Center
Aragvi Adventure Center is located on the banks of Aragvi Rive, not far from Tbilisi, and is known as a hub for outdoor and water-based activities. The center focuses mainly on rafting and kayaking, but also the center offers activities such as ziplining, rope courses, and team-building programs.
In general, it’s a very nice location and pleasant campsite with basic facilities including showers, cafe, changing areas, safety equipment, and trained instructors who guide all activities. Thanks to its easy access from the capital, Aragvi Adventure Center is a popular choice for day trips, school groups, and travelers looking to add a bit of adventure to their time in Georgia.

– Aghvi Camping
Aghvi Camping is a family start-up in a small village Aghvi, on the banks of the Horse River.

is an exciting project of a Georgian girl, who gathered 9 like-minded people to develop an eco-friendly campsite / guesthouses in Gomi, a small village in Ozurgeti, Guria
Along with private well maintained and ecological territory for camping and leisure, the area offers small cottage accommodations and all necessary facilities and beautiful surroundings.
Surrounded by hills, forest, and tea-growing landscapes, tucked away from main roads, it offers a calm and informal atmosphere that feels closer to a rural hideaway than a traditional campground.

Wild camping top spots
National Parks of Georgia – they are managed reserves – best nature of the country, usually offering several day long trekking routes and specific camping spots (also some cottages sometimes) on the way . The price for camping is small and everywhere you can rent tents and camping equipment as well as horses and guides on spot – in administrative centers.
All of them are beautiful, pick the one that’s most attractive for you, head towards the visitors center, discover the routes and camping locations and enjoy. We have heard that camping spot in Brojomi Kharagauli NP, near resort Nunisi is one of the best locations, but honestly all national parks are amazing.
Kazbegi Region
– In General, around Stepantsminda, is a great camping area. Slopes of Mt. Kazbegi offer several locations with fresh water and midway there are cottages for travelers for example the ones on Sabertsse pass.
– Anywhere near Juta and higher up towards Chaukhi Massif, which offers beautiful scenery (apart fromZeta campsite)
– Khde Gorge – this is the wildes, most untouched and one of the most beautiful areas in the country. Its full of wildlife and high altitude peaks. Only downside is that its near the border and all travelers need to get a permit to enter from the border control (which is righ at the bottom of the gorge – at the Lars border)
Khevsureti Region
– Village Roshka – has some guesthouses and a vast free camping area, is also a base to Abudelauri Lakes campsite.
– Abudelauri Lakes – 2 hours walk from Roshka – alpine lakes with beautiful mountain views

Tusheti Region
Kvemo Kartli / Near Tbilisi
Kareli municipality is home to one of the most beautiful lakes in Georgia called Bateti. Even though the lake is quite small, the surrounding forest creates a gorgeous landscape for camping. The area is accessible by car and is a three-hour drive from Tbilisi. The best time to visit the lake is in autumn when the leaves change into autumn colors.
Birtvisi is a ruined medieval fortress nested within limestone cliffs in the Algeti river gorge, adjacent to the Algeti National Park, south-west of the capital Tbilisi.
Birtvisi is essentially a natural rocky fortress of 1 km², secured by walls and towers, the most prominent of which – known as Sheupovari (“Obstinate”) – tops the tallest rock in the area.
It is an excellent hiking and camping destination due to its beautiful nature – dense deciduous forest settled among tall rocky cliffs and canyons. It is a popular destination among locals and travelers.
It’s approximately 1 hour drive (60km) away from Tbilisi and requires 1.5 hour trekking to reach the campsite destination.

Lake Bateti
Birtvisi Canyon
A quiet mountain lake surrounded by pine forest and berrie bushes – feels remote yet welcoming. Reached by 4×4 or on foot from the village of Chobiskhevi, it’s a rewarding destination for hikers and nature lovers. Sitting at 1,752 meters above sea level, the lake is especially beautiful in late spring, when wildflowers bloom along the shore.
Beyond fishing, the area is ideal for picnics and camping, with spruce trees on one side and open slopes rich in wild berries on the other. A short 2-kilometer hike from the lake leads to the small settlement of Dabadzveli, where local families sell natural products during the warmer months, adding a gentle human touch to this peaceful mountain landscape.
Racha Region
– Lake Udziro
One of the best camping spots is in the region of Racha, at the shore of lake Udziro, which is an alpine lake, of volcanic origin, fed by glaciers, surrounded by peaks. Getting there requires an impressive trek often done over two days, involving forests, alpine valleys, and a steep ascent to a pass.
Campsite is a small field, at the elevation of 2800 meters and with Katitsvera summit behind it. On the other side there are wonderful views to the highest summits of Georgia – Svaneti — Tetnuldi, Shkhara and Ushba which are reflected in the lake.
– Khvamli Mountain
Khvamli, also known as Khomli, is located in Lechkhumi. According to the old, ancient sources, Khvamli — is considered as the mystic place of trip of the legendary Greek heroes, Argonauts and the Heracles.
Campsite is at the top of the mountain, at the border of forest and alpine zone, 15 min walk from unbelievable views to west Georgia lowlands and Caucasus mountain range perfectly visible in a clear morning sky.
– Gomi Mountain
Gomis Mta, or Gomi Mountain, is a summer resort in the Ozurgeti municipality, western Georgia. Located on the northern slopes of Meskheti ridge, the area rises 2,100-2,755 meters (6,889-9,038 ft) above sea level. Summer months here are moderately cool, while winter is cold with heavy snow. The place is surrounded by coniferous forests of spruce and fir, creating an absolutely marvelous view above the clouds
– Ajara Region
The whole black sea coast is open for camping, there are no restrictions, you can set up your tent right in the middle of Batumi seaside. We especially recoomend to check
– Tobavarchkhili Lakes
These lakes require special mention. Tobavarchkhili Lakes are often called “Toba” by locals and are in the Samegrelo region. They are also referred to as the “silver lakes” by locals. Tobavarchkhili Lakes are among Georgia’s most remote and dramatic alpine destinations, hidden high in the Egrisi Range in Samegrelo. The hike to the lakes usually takes several days and passes through deep gorges, waterfalls, high mountain passes, and wide alpine meadows. It’s a demanding route, suitable for experienced hikers, but the reward is a group of crystal-clear lakes set in a wild, almost untouched landscape, often wrapped in mist and sudden weather changes.
Camping is an essential part of the Tobavarchkhili experience. The main campsite is located near the largest lake, on open grassy ground with panoramic mountain views. There are no facilities here, so hikers must be fully self-sufficient and prepared for cold nights even in summer. The isolation, silence, and scale of the surroundings make camping at Tobavarchkhili feel less like a stop on a trail and more like staying inside the mountains themselves.
